I just found a blog post of mine translated into a foreign language on a different blog. Check out the link above. The photo they chose is odd and doesn't match the story but from what I can tell it is my blog post and they do include a link to my blog.
Check out the original post from my blog: http://www.xnomads.typepad.com/blog/2011/04/my-big-blue-marble-pen-pal.html
I don't really mind. My article is about rediscovering an old pen pal I had from when I was 10. What is the harm in sharing stories about pen pals with friends around the world? Pretty cool!
Did you have a pen pal as a child? How did you get matched up? Do you still write each other today? Pen pals are the best!
That's funny about your post in a different language. :)
And YES!! I did have A LOT of pen pals - all around the world. I think I was up to about 15-20 pen pals. I just LOVED it. And i miss it a lot. I don't have contact to any of them anymore.
I first started finding pen pals via magazines. Then I found IYS - Internation Youth Service - and from there I got tons and tons of pen pals. Then we started swapping FB's (Friendship Books) and from there I also got new pen pals. It was so much fun!

I have a pen pal from 10th grade that I am now keeping in touch with through Facebook. At that time I lived in Guam and she in Texas. We lost touch after marriage and kids, but I am so happy that we are connected once more. We've never met in person, but I think I would love to do so soon.

What a great story! There is something so special about pen pals. Do kids have them now-a-days? I know my kids dont. I suppose it is because technology makes communicating with anyone so easily. And with media we already know so much about other cultures, we dont have the same curiosity? Hmmm...

Wow! That is very interesting. What is a Friendship Book? I dont think I have ever heard of them. Were your pen pals from all over the world?

Yes, my pen pals were from all over the world: Different countries here i Europe, the USA, Australia etc. It was so much fun. Friendship books were little books with room for your information like: name, address, if you wanted new pen pals etc. Then the books circled in all the letters between pen pals and you could find new pals this way. ... does it make sense? I'm afraid it's a bit hard for me to explain it in English. ;)

Wow! What a neat concept. You should scrapbook about that or document in someway. Do you still have one or any photos? Such a treasure.
