My middle son was letting me taste his waffle.
This is the 13th post in a 31 Day series: Creative Inspiration. Check out all the posts here.
Today is Self-Timer Madness Day. I've been trying to use the self-timer on my camera more regularly. I want to make it a HABIT.
Habit is a very important part of being CREATIVE.
Basically a habit is the act of repeating something on a regular basis.
Which could also be loosely (or not so loosely) defined as practicing.
The more you practice, the more you experiment, the better you become at something. Anything. Even art or photography.
To be creative, you need to make time for your habit. Do something creative EVERYDAY even if it is something little. Taking a picture with your smart phone is creative. Making a card is creative. Doodling is creative. Writing a letter is creative.
If you are frustrated by your lack of creative pursuits, make a committment to do what you want to do for a week straight. If you want to improve your painting, paint a picture every day for a week, no matter what and see what happens. I bet you will be surprised how happy you feel. (I'm talking to myself here too - I'm thinking next week sounds like a good time to start!)
Tomorrow I will give you some ideas on creative habits you can participate in online. Online communities are a great place to get support in creative habits.
Before I go, here are a couple of other gems of me and Nicholas we took today. My dad would have said, "Nicholas isn't mean!" That was Dad's way of reminding me that "I" never comes first in grammar. I should have said, "Nicholas and I!"
Nicholas was home sick today but as he started feeling better later in the day we spent about an hour Skyping each other and instant messaging for fun. He was in the next room. Silly boy! Nothing like useless technology to make a ten year old boy happy. He's a big fan of emoticons.
And here are our feet. Just for fun!
I'm linking up at The Anderson Family Crew blog today for Embrace the Camera because documenting ourselves with our family is that important! Thank you for hosting this each week, Emily. It is an important creative habit and if it weren't for this weekly challenge, I would show up in a lot less photos! Go on over and link up. It's fun!
