Developing Your Photographic Design Skills is a fantastic article from a photography blog I just discovered called Photo Focus.
I love everything about this article so I wanted to share it with you.
It is genius in how it describes how to improve your photo taking.
More good things I've discovered online over the past week or so:
The Photo Junkies - this is a pair of women who love photography. I like the variety they add and the fun they bring to their site.
Photos of Japan by Steve McCurry. Japan is still on my mind a lot these days. My heart still breaks when I see what they have to deal with. I have very good friends who are, thankfully, far away from the devastation but are still suffering. I have one good friend who is in the thick of it every day as part of the Self Defense forces digging through the rubble recovering people. As a very small tribute, I wanted to link to some beautiful photos of Japan from Steve McCurry's archives. Steve McCurry is the National Geographic photographer made famous by his cover of "The Afghan Girl."
Orgjunkie.com - How to menu plan - I've recently discovered the Monday Plan Menu link-up. It inspired me to finally sit down on a Sunday and plan out my menus for the week. Not surprisingly it made for a much smoother, less stressful, more satisfying week for me. Check it out. (I must say that the link up is massive - over 400, so it is not a cozy, personal group. Many mention they have links and recipes and a lot 'appeared' to be promoting their food related busineses. I can't say for sure, though because I did not visit any blogs and I had very few hits (3 or 4) and no comments on my blog even though I followed the instructions and mentioned I was a first timer so I could receive 'support'. Regardless, I think it is a great thing just to have a place to publish my plan and link up - a little more accountability. If anyone else links up some where for an early week menu plan type think that might be a little cozier, I'm all ears. )
Kelly Manno's blog - She is a photographer based out of St Louis (I think?) but I wanted to link up to her blog because she is a portrait photographer who also posts photos on her blog of her real life. I like portraits as much as the next person, but by far my most favorite type of photography is photojournalistic real life. With a little bit of practice and enough technical knowledge, many people can take satisfying portraits. Not so with photojournalism/candid photography. Taking good photos of real life with its fast pace and activity is a much greater challenge.
PhotoFocus.com also has a really good camera give-a-way going on right now. It ends in May. I also saw they are adding yet another camera give-a-way tomorrow (Fri). So, not only do they have fantastic photography information, but great give-a-ways too.
4x6 Photo Love by Shimelle - I may be a little late to the game on this once since this is a FREE year long online class which started in January and it is already April, but you can join any time, you can still do March's sketch and enter to win prizes and April's sketch hasn't even gone live yet! And if you are like me and LOVE scrapbooking your 4x6 photos, this class is a perfect match. Each month she is doing a sketch with that number of photos, so for example, January was 1 photo, February 2, etc, etc. Can't wait to see how she does 12 4x6 photos in December! This class is also part of a year long series at Two Peas that features three other teachers and all are free.
Making Memories Dilly Dally Giveaway at Memory Makers magazine. You have until the end of the month to enter. Dilly Dally is a very cute springy line.
You can't enter below to win - you must go to the Memory Makers website to do that (see my link above).
