I love blog posts that do a retrospective. Where they go back in time and compare what was happening in the past with something going on today. They are so cool. So, when it was the prompt for Blogging for Scrapbookers today, I had to alter my planned post a bit.
My original plan was to share my latest cupcake creations. So I decided to go back in time and see if I had created any fun cupcakes last year around this time and to my delight, I had!
THEN
These cupcakes I made for sports day at the school of my two oldest boys last April. Click here to see that post.
NOW
Below are some cupcakes I made for a field trip picnic that I helped chaperon this past Saturday. My older two boys volunteered me to bring cupcakes since I am slightly well-known around the school set for making decorative cupcakes.
Admittedly, the community here is easy to impress since a decent cake is hard to come by in Beijing where very few people bake, let alone have ovens. And nobody decorates anything! It is really not part of the culture. So, when I bring my creations, I get showered with acolades.
I'm sure once I return home where I am just another creative mom in the crowd of other creative moms, I may suffer some withdrawls wondering quietly to myself why nobody is gushing over my hours of hard work.
I'm sure I'll get used to it. And the nice part will be the privelege of being around others who also like to create and getting inspired by them and their great ideas. I miss seeing birthday cakes that my friends lovingly plan and make for their kids.
So, not much has changed. I'm still making cupcakes! In fact, another bake sale is coming up for Earth Day, so I better start figuring out what what to make for that event. Any ideas? I'd love to hear them.
Most of these ideas come from one of my two favorite cupcake books: What's New, Cupcake? and Hello, Cupcake! Another favorite resource for fun & easy cupcakes is Family Fun.

OMG. Those bugs are genius. :D Great job. Maybe for earth day, make cupcakes with the earth drawn on them... or dirt-cup type with grass and worms? One year, I made my daughter a litter box cake to take to school. The teacher was NOT happy with me. LOL. The kids loved it though. ;)
