This is the third week I have participated in Rebecca's Simple Things challenge over at her blog. Once a week I will take a photo of a simple thing in my life that makes me smile.
There was a themed charity dinner at my son's Kindergarten. We were meant to dress western for the barn dance. I headed down to Hongqiao market in pursuit of cowboy hats and bandanas. I ended up buying three hats thinking that my older two boys wouldn't want to dress up. Boy was I wrong! My oldest, 12, took me up on my offer to wear a hat without hesitation, found his best Western-style shirt, leather belt and shoes. His enthusiasm inspired my second son to get into the spirit. I found myself with five willing participants and only three cowboy hats, one of which was sequined (mine). Luckily an American neighbor of mine came through with an additional cowboy hat and a coonskin cap, Davy Crocket style. The whole family was able to dress the part.
Simple Things like cowboy hats, sure added to the fun and excitement of the evening for our whole family.
And here's a couple shots of the urban cowboys on the way to the event:
THE VIEW FROM HERE
My new blog friend, Kiley, who also lives in China, has a weekly photo challenge over at her blog called The View from Here. Click the icon above to visit her.
This week's theme is {Gatherings}:
The reason I chose this photo was because this was my view 'from here' at the conclusion of our Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday when we were just hanging out visiting. I think this is my favorite part of Thanksgiving, relaxing, chatting - simply enjoying each others' company with no special place to go and nothing special to do.
It always a good moment to see a child who is bounding to be grown up - act like a kid!

I can only imagine the looks the five of you received en route to the event. A family of 5 is interesting enough, never mind that you're all wearing ten gallons on your head!! Thanks for sharing on The View from Here this week, too. Looking forward to more blog friendship.
BTW, just saw that you won at simple as that!!
