Yesterday we celebrated at school. We were going to have a small party at home but one of B's good friends is still away on vacation and we leave for the States on Friday so I just didn't think I could manage a party on top of preparation for our trip. He seemed quite happy with his celebration.
He gave these out to his friends at school. In China, the tradition is for the birthday boy or girl to give gifts to their friends. They can get quite elaborate. We went the more simple, personal route. The sentiment was B's idea and he drew a ladybug to go along with the theme.

Today the birthday boy woke up to a house decorated by the Birthday Fairy. She put 'ribbons' all over the place including Mom's desk. B couldn't believe that! There were balloons scattered every where and of course the chair of honor in the kitchen had balloons and more 'ribbon.' And a couple of banners were hung in strategic places wishing the birthday boy a Happy Birthday!
Here he is watching Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs first thing in the morning. It's his birthday, so he gets to do whatever he wants. I love how he's been wearing his superhero cape around the house lately. Sometimes even wearing it to bed.
Joined by two of his favorite people in the whole wide world.
Some of the decorations put up by the Birthday Fairy while we were sleeping.
A panda puppet to add to his panda collection and his puppet collection. It is very convenient when your favorite animal is the panda and you live in China, though this panda is originally from the Hollywood Bowl.
Hugging his birthday card from Grandma.
And a Lego set from the cousins - the perfect gift - I wonder how they knew??
I think the new five-year-old in our house had a fantastic birthday. We finished off the day with cupcakes, a car race with Mom, a bedtime story & a lullaby.
Now that the house is quiet, I'm going to work on the latest sketch challenge over at the Ella Publishing blog.
On Sunday, don't forget to come over to the Scrap Weekly blog for this week's challenge. There are some great pages posted over there from our earlier challenges.
I'll post my pages for those as soon as I get them done. And on Thursday I'm making more cupcakes. This time for a bake sale at the older boys' school. They are doing a big performance for the annual Night of Unity & Joy. Should be exciting. And with Lunar New Year coming up on February 14, I'm thinking I'll try out some red tigers since the new year is the year of the tiger. If I have time before my flight, I'll post those too.
Happy Birthday to Braden
